Beat the Celestial Tournament part 1

Welcome to part 1 of my Celestial Tournament guide. Please Note: This is revision 2.0, as I have made some changes to the Dr Ion Goldbloom & Lorewalker Cho battles.

The Celestial Tournament is a special Battle Pet Scenario held on the Timeless Isle, Pandaria.

There is plenty of information about the Tournament itself on the interwebs, so I’ll only list the basics here and then focus on how to actually beat the Trainers and Celestial Children of the Tournament.

You start the Tournament by speaking to Master Li. Make sure you have at least 15 level 25 battle pets. You wont be able to start the Tournament without that many and to be honest it’s a good idea because you’ll need a bit of variety to win.

– You can change your team and their skills between fights.
– Leaving the Tournament instance means that you lose your progress and need to start again from the beginning.
– The Tournament is a weekly event. The Stage 1 Legendary Trainers will change, but the Stage 2 Legendary Children remain the same.

The most important thing to remember though, is that you can’t heal your pets between fights! So make sure all of your pets are healed before you enter the Tournament!

There is a way to heal them if you absolutely have to but it is very time consuming and annoying – you’ll need a healer pet, start a fight with it, heal as your first move, and forfeit the fight. There is no 10% HP loss for forfeiting so you can rinse and repeat this tactic to heal the pet you need in a pinch.

All Battle Pet fights have a degree of random misses and there is no way to combat that, but after weeks of trial and error I have completed the Celestial Tournament multiple times using these exact strategies and am now confident enough to share them with all of you. I hope you enjoy 🙂

This fight includes Dr. Ion Goldbloom, Lore Walker Cho & Sully ‘The Pickle’ Mcleary.

Like in my previous Battle Pet guide, Feel free to swap out any of the pets for their equivalents, ie Crow for Gilnean Raven, any Mechanical instead of Blue Clockwork Rocket, and any Undead pet with Curse of Doom for Unborn Valkyr.

P.S. Comments welcome! If you have used the guide successfully and want to share I’d love to hear about it! Or if you notice something isn’t working for you please let me know and I’ll look into it and correct it asap!

Trainer Group 1

I do these fights in the below order because I use Scourged Whelpling for 2 fights, however for the first fight he can be swapped for any other Dragonkin with Tail Sweep (ie, Onyxian Whelpling, Dark Whelpling, Nexus Whelpling etc).

Dr. Ion Goldbloom

Pets Needed:
Slot 1. Celestial Dragon : Flamethrower, Ancient Blessing, Moonfire
Slot 2. Cogblade Raptor : Batter, Overtune, Expose Wounds
Slot 3. Scourged Whelpling : Tail Sweep, Call Darkness, Dreadful Breath

Strat:

Screamer – Open with Ancient Blessing (Screamer will Lift Off), then Moonfire then spam Flamethrower – using Moonfire on CD. If he swaps to Trike, swap to your Cogblade Raptor. If at any time he swaps to Screamer swap back to Celestial Dragon.

TrikeOvertune, then spam Batter for an easy win. If Raptor still up, get off an Expose Wounds on whichever pet comes in. If at any time he swaps to Chaos, bring in your Scourged Whelpling.

ChaosTail Sweep x 3 = Chaos dead. If he swaps to Trike bring in your Dragon or Raptor to finish him off.

Lore Walker Cho

Pets Needed:
Slot 1. Emerald Whelpling : Emerald Bite, Moonfire, Tranquillity
Slot 2. Scourged Whelpling : Tail Sweep, Call Darkness, Dreadful Breath
Slot 3. Flayer Youngling : Blitz, Focus, Kick

Strat:

WisdomMoonfire, then Tranquillity, then spam Emerald Bite – use Tranquillity on CD.

Patience – Continue to spam Emerald Bite and remember to use Tranquillity on CD. When your Emerald Whelpling dies, bring in your Scourged Whelpling. Call Darkness first, to mitigate the enemy’s healing, then spam Tail Sweep to victory.

Knowledge – If the Scourged Whelpling is still alive keep going with Tail Sweep, but you will probably be left with your Flayer Youngling. If your Speed is faster use Kick, then spam Blitz. If not, use Focus first then spam Blitz.

Sully ‘The Pickle’ Mcleary

Pets Needed:
Slot 1. Swamp Croaker : Tongue Lash, Swarm of Flies, Bubble
Slot 2. Gilnean Raven : Alpha Strike, Call Darkness, Nocturnal Strike
Slot 3. Garden Moth : Alpha Strike, Cocoon Strike, Moth Dust

Strat:

SocksSwarm of Flies, then spam Tongue Lash. When Socks resurrects Bubble. Socks will drop dead.

Monte – Get another Swarm of Flies off on Monte and spam Tongue Lash until your frog is dead. Bring in your Raven. Call Darkness, and Nocturnal Strike then spam Alpha Strike. If Monte is at <300 HP just Alpha Strike instead of Nocturnal Strike and save Nocturnal Strike for Rikki.

Rikki – The last pet is super annoying because of Cute Face. It’s very RNG. Use Call Darkness / Nocturnal Strike on CD, then Alpha Strike until your Gilnean Raven dies. Then bring in the Moth to finish off. Moth Dust, Cocoon Strike and spam Alpha Strike to victory.

ROUND 2 – Celestial Children

It is important to do this in the order below, as you will need your Pandaren Water Spirit for 2 fights and he should easily survive the first one (unless of course you have 2 :)).

Xu-Fu, Cub of Xuen

Pets Needed:
Slot 1. Pandaren Water Spirit : Water Jet, Whirlpool, Geyser
Slot 2. Chrominius : Bite, Howl, Surge of Power
Slot 3. Blue Rocket Bot : Missile, Toxic Smoke, Sticky Bomb

Strat:

1. Geyser
2. Whirlpool
3. Swap to Chrominius
4. Howl, (Geyser and Whirlpool will resolve and stun him)
5. Surge of Power

This should kill him, but if not bring in your mechanical and finish him off.

Chi-Chi, Hatchling of Chi-Ji

Pets Needed:
Slot 1. Unborn Valkyr : Shadow Slash, Curse of Doom, Unholy Ascension
Slot 2. Pandaren Water Spirit : Water Jet, Whirlpool, Geyser
Slot 3. Chrominius : Bite, Howl, Surge of Power

Strat:

1. Spam Shadow Slash until you die and resurrect. Then use Curse of Doom. It is important that you don’t use this until your ‘death’ round.
2. Swap to Pandaren Water Spirit and use Geyser
3. Whirlpool
4. If still alive, throw in a Water Jet, but otherwise swap to Chominius
5. Howl. Chi-Chi is then hit by double damage from Curse of Doom, Geyser, and Whirlpool simultaneously! If she somehow survives, she is now stunned and ready for you to unleash a double damage Surge of Power which WILL finish the job!

Zao, Calfling of Niuzao

Pets Needed:
Slot 1. Lil Bad Wolf – Claw, Mangle, Howl
Slot 2. Sunreaver Micro-Sentry – Laser, Haywire, Call Lightning
Slot 3. Clockwork Gnome – Railgun, Blitz, Build Turret

Strat:

1. Mangle
2. Swap to Sunreaver Micro-Sentry, (who soaks the Charge)
3. Lightning Storm
4. Swap to Clockwork Gnome
5. Build Turret
6. Swap back to Lil’ Bad Wolf
7. Howl

The Lightning Storm/Turret damage is doubled and Zao goes down.

Yu’la, Broodling of Yu’Lon

Pets Needed:
Slot 1. Lil Bad Wolf : Claw, Dodge, Howl
Slot 2. Pandaren Monk : Takedown, Staggered Steps, Blackout Kick
Slot 3. Anubisath Idol : Crush, Sandstorm, Deflection

Strat:

1. Claw
2. Dodge (Yula will Lift Off)
3. Howl
4. Spam Claw until dead. Bring in the Monk.
5. Blackout Kick
6. Takedown
7. Takedown
8. Staggered Steps (Yula will Lift Off)
9. Takedown
10. Takedown
11. Blackout Kick
12. Takedown
13. Takedown
14. Staggered Steps (Yula will Lift Off)
15. Takedown
16. Takedown

If Monk dies, finish off with Anubisath Idol, using Deflection against Lift-Offs, but you shouldn’t have to.
