In what is sure to be a massive embarrassment for Sony, 77 million Playstation Network users have had their personal details, including their name, address and possibly their credit card number. Citing an ‘external intrusion’ Sony issued a warning to their registered account holders, “We believe that an unauthorised person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network password and login, and PSN online ID”. Sony has warned customers not to fall for the sure to be arriving scams and emphasized that no true Sony representative would ever ask for their credit card information.

As of this writing the PSN is offline pending an investigation, and analysts are saying that this disaster could cost them billions of dollars.

For one of the biggest companies in the world to fall prey to this is a joke. They should be ashamed of themselves and are going to have to work hard to earn the trust of their customers after this.
