The nominations for the 2014 Academy Awards have been announced and to be honest, there were few surprises, except perhaps the exclusion of Saving Mr Banks. And, although there was no doubt that 12 Years A Slave would be included, I believe the number of nominations are excessive. I know that this is a controversial opinion, but I believe that film is highly over-rated.
And, on a side note, how the hell can Star Trek: Into Darkness be nominated for visual effects?! The use of fake Lens Flare should automatically exclude your film from any nominations! 🙂
2013 featured some great films, and some exceptionally strong performances, so I don’t envy the Academy members’ task to choose the best of the best from the list below.

Go beyond the page with Australian comic and graphic novel creators in this new short documentary series.
Tim Molloy, Ben Hutchings and Dillon Naylor are artists living and working in Melbourne, Australia. All three have rich and unique work published by Milk Shadow Books, an independent publisher, whose aim is to offer up the ‘weirdest trips, strangest journeys, and assorted stories that make you laugh, think and gag’.
We are huge fans of Milk Shadow Books here at NCP. I even had the chance to interview Ben way back on episode 22 and he was awesome.
Thanks to Madman Entertainment we are proud to present this inspiring insight into their daily lives, where they talk about creativity, inspiration and the struggle of balancing work, art & life.
We also have a clip of Tim Molloy, as he talks about his comic book series ‘Mr. Unpronounceable Adventures’.
And in this video, Dillon Naylor chats about his cult comic book series ‘Da ‘n’ Dill – The Showbag Years’, which for the first time, has had all seven issues of his showbag insert series rescanned from original art and collected in one volume along with cool bonuses like unpublished pages, sketches and notes.
If you would like to purchase and of these, or any of the other awesome Milk Shadow Books range, please visit Madman, or the official Milk Shadow Books website!
As I mentioned in episode #62 thanks to the great people behind Armageddon Expo I had the good fortune to attend the Media Event last Friday, attended by Corey Feldman, Billy Boyd & Ian McNiece, which was great.
We all then split up into our scheduled interviews, with mine scheduled to be Dan Slott and Brent Anderson. I did get to meet Dan, and his interview will be in episode #63, but due to flight delays I was unable to interview Brent.
But all was not lost, as while I was waiting to interview Dan I struck up a conversation with the lovely Marni, who was revealed to be Brian’s Agent (and girlfriend) and not only was she awesome but she also arranged an interview with Brian! And I have to say, I have had some great interview experiences, but Brian is right up there with my favourites. He is not only a ridiculously talented actor and writer, but he was so awesome to talk to and I had a blast.
And he seemed to enjoy it too, because we were meant to only have 15 mins together, but before we knew it we were at 50 mins! And it was all awesome.
Obviously 50 mins is too much to put onto an episode so I’ve decided to post it here on the site almost in its entirety (it’s 46 mins, minus edits of people interrupting us and stuff). I hope you enjoy it.
And thanks again to Brian, Marni & Sophie from Armageddon Expo for allowing this to happen 🙂
