Hunter Spec – Stick it to ’em

Posted by Brian On November 3, 2012 ADD COMMENTS

Stick it to ’em is a Marksman spec for Hunters. This spec allows the hunter to wail on their foe(s) from the safety of any distance farther away than melee… which is exactly where all hunter’s should stay.

The main talents to assist in keeping enemies away from you are Binding Shot and Narrow Escape. These will hold your enemies in a certain area to allow for heavy AoE such as Lynx Rush, Multishot and Barrage. Thrill of the Hunt is a great passive for these situations for you to really throw more damage around, no matter if you are hitting a single target or a group. To further assist with survivability, Aspect of the Iron Hawk is also added in for those few situations where you may have an enemy slip through the cracks and get to harm you. Under these situations, be sure to remember your Disengage 1st, then your traps if your Disengage happens to be on cool down.

As for the major glyphs, I have selected Distracting Shot, Chimera Shot and Mending.  Distracting Shot and Mending are there to help keep you and your pet alive and well, keeping threat on the pet, and healing it over time. Chimera Shot will be the Hunter’s own form of mending.

Minor glyphs of course are always just for fun, but in some cases there can be a few for each class that can be of a lot of assistance.  Two examples of this are shown in Revive Pet and Tame Beast. Revive Pet is not frequently used, but is for those just in case scenarios where you may have gotten your pet killed and need to revive while you are still under attack.  (Don’t forget traps and Binding Shot for this emergency 1st before you start to revive). Tame Beast allows the taming to go a little faster so you can get back to questing, or whatever you were originally doing. As for Glyph of Fetch… pure entertainment… but I guess if your enemy dies in a spot where you are unable to loot, it could come in handy.

Bushwacker spec

Welcome to my latest WoW Yoda spec. This time I’m showing some Hunter love, with a Survival spec I like to call the Bushwacker.

This spec will allow the Hunter to hit hard and fast to annihilate their prey. The main part to remember about this spec while using it, is that traps will be a real prerequisite, to allow the frequent use of the player to Lock and Load. Also, Thrill of the Hunt and Efficiency to keep as much focus as possible. I recommend using Ice Trap (using the Trap Launcher) to initiate your attack. This way, you will use Explosive Shot (which will be a free cast), then Black Arrow, Serpent Sting, and then any combination of Arcane Shot or Cobra Shot until your original Explosive Shot‘s cool down has finished, in which you simply apply another Explosive Shot. Also, this spec gains a large amount of bonuses from using Deterrence for sticky situations, including Mirrored Blades.  Also, Disengage will be needed, but only after using Ice Trap, so you can gain another Lock and Load.

Your critical strike will be highly increased from Point of No Escape, Toxicology, Glyph of Explosive Shot, and Glyph of Serpent Sting while your Haste is bolstered by Pathing and Hunting Party. Of course, a little more Haste from gear/enchants couldn’t hurt. Mastery will also be a very nice addition to increase your added elemental damage, which will be in all of your special ability shots.

The pet of choice for this spec is the Wind Serpent, for the additional 8% magic damage, and Roar of Recovery, which can help a lot to gain extra Focus. Or, if you prefer, an Owl, for its ability to increase its own damage.

All in all, this spec should allow the user to destroy your enemy, while he slips around on your ice, and if he does get out of the ice, you have plenty of ways to avoid damage, and force him back on the ice and at the dangerous end of your weapon and pet.

Tooth & Nail spec

Welcome to my latest Wow Yoda spec – Tooth and Nail. This is a Beast Master Hunter spec and is designed around the purpose of you helping your pet to help you.

The perfect 2 talents to explain this, are Frenzy and Focus fire.  Your pet is constantly gaining its Frenzy effect, until the point where you can unleash your Focus Fire, gaining a lot of benefits to yourself.  Mixing this in with Longevity, to decrease your pets, and your, cool downs to make you both more lethal is a huge bonus as well.  Also, with Invigoration and Go for the Throat, any time you critically hit with auto attacks, your pet gains Focus, and any time your pet critically hits, you gain 6 Focus.  Now, I know that a lot of people say that Killing Streak is a necessary talent, however I have a lot of reasons why I don’t take this.  The main, and most important reason, is because most mobs you kill only need 2 Kill Command attacks to kill, so if both critically hit, the 3rd is generally wasted.  Also, for PvP, the enemy usually gets to be too far away for you to use this, due to the fact that it has a 10 sec timer on it, and Kill Command has a 6-8 sec cooldown so really only a 2-4 sec window to use this talent, that requires 2 talent points.  So not worth it.

Since this spec gets messed up if your pet dies, you have Spirit Bond, Improved Mend Pet, and Glyph of Mending to make sure to keep your pet alive and well.  Also, remember your Master’s Call and Bestial Wrath in case somebody attempts to crowd control you or your pet.  If you want some higher survivability, then I recommend removing Pathing and Improved Kill Command, to take Hunter vs. Wild, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimera.  This may reduce some of the damage you deal, but will HIGHLY increase your chance of surviving for PvP, and for groups of enemies.

One thing that I enjoy doing with this spec, is waiting for my Focus Fire to be ready to use, then I follow that up with Rapid Fire and Bestial Wrath, to deliver quick and massive blows with my gun (since I use a dwarf, I like the extra 1% extra critical hit chance with them) and can usually get to approximately a 1.5 sec speed or less 🙂

PETS

In PvP I usually use my Chimera (named Thunderfrost).  It keeps my enemies slowed down so I can just keep shooting at them.  For PvE I use my Worm (named Cupcake) due to its ability to increase enemy physical damage taken and is also a very effective tank.  I do however have a Devilsaur (Tyrant) that I use occasionally, as well as a Rhino (Mittens) in case I know I am with some people that do bleed damage, or that I need some knock back.

All in all, this spec has all that you need to fight with your companion against any opponent.
